Ted Collins 1,2

Ted Collins won race 1 and 2 at Morgan Park in a fiercely contested round for the Motul Supersport  class.

Race One

The Motul Supersport class played to a full house on Sunday at Morgan Park.

Action began early in the day when Mark Chiodo dropped his Repsol Triumph at turn 3 during warmup, bike and rider were all ok unfortunately it set the pace for Mark’s day to come.

Mark Chiodo dropped it during warmup

Chiodo was the man to beat during Saturdays qualifying and began Race 2 on fire. However Ted Collins got away with a superb start setting him up for the win, despite battling a recent bout of the flu and a shoulder injury.

The battle for the top three positions on the podium was tense and hard fought. Collins took the early lead into turn one while Chiodo dropped back to third. Tom Toparis on the Cube Racing, Kawasaki also got a great start slotting into second place.

Ted Collins dominates Race 1

Chiodo and Toparis battled for a few laps and Chiodo was the victor. The fight was a long way from over still at this point and there was more bad luck to come for Chiodo.

Collins bided his time till the final quarter and then unleashed the beast in his Suzuki and demolished the lap record by more than a second and put solid distance between himself and Chiodo in the process.

Chiodo eventually reeled in Toparis to take second

With 3 laps remaining Chiodo couldn’t keep up with Collins and Toparis was tapping him on the shoulder, the pressure was too much and Chiodo pulled into turn 5 with too much front brake and it was all over despite getting back on the bike.

Chiodo’s misfortune propelled Toparis up to second and Nic Liminton on the Race Center Yamaha up to the Podium

Race Two was again a victory for Collins but his chance would come a little later than turn one.

Early on the race belonged to Chris Quinn on the CoopersHXR Yamaha, Chiodo again showed his speed and knocked Quinn from the perch leaving him to do battle with Collins.

Chris Quinn lead early on

Collins got around Quinn and was now in strike position behind Chiodo. Collins found his moment when Chiodo crashed again on lap six and now it was Collins’s race.

Meanwhile with the battle going on at the top another fierce battle was taking place between Mason Coote on the Aark Racing Yamaha and Chris Quinn. On the final lap Quinn managed to dive down the inside of Coote but Coote wasn’t done and regained the position at Suzuki Corner.
